Lambertville is a city in Hunterdon County that was founded in 1705. During the 18th century, the area was known as Coryell’s Ferry, after a ferry owner, Emanuel Coryell. The area was only named Lambertville in honor of John Lambert in 1814, once a post office was established ( Lambert was a local resident who had served as United States Senator and Acting Governor of New Jersey). Today, Lambertville is a tourist destination, as it is home to many shops, galleries, restaurants, and B&Bs. Additionally, the canal path offers residents and visitors a place to exercise and enjoy views of the canal and Delaware River.
